The Town of Saratoga and Village of Schuylerville are planning an exciting historical week celebration.
Historical Week is an over 100 year tradition which commemorates the rich history of the community.
"We plan a whole week of events to commemorate America's Most Historic
Village," according to Village Historian Kristina Saddlemire. "We have a
great partnership made up of the Village and Town of Saratoga
Historian along with Turning Point Parade, Old Saratoga Historical
Association, National Park Service, Schuylerville Area Chamber of
Commerce, Schuylerville Visitors Center, theGenealogy Department at
the Schuylerville Public Library and Hudson Crossing Park."
The schedule includes:
TURNING POINT PARADE FESTIVAL
Saturday & Sunday, August 2 & 3
Kid's Rides, Food, Fireman's Fun Day
and Block Dance on Saturday. Music from the Open Bar Band and
Fireworks on Sunday. Fort Hardy Park
TURNING POINT PARADE
Sunday, August 3 (1 pm)
Over 100 separate units including marching bands/musical units, fire
and rescue, law enforcement, re-enactors and military units past and
present. It is a parade with a "small town flavor". Broad Street
WALKING TOUR OF GREEN STREET
Monday, August 4 (6:30 pm)
Join Village of Schuylerville Historian Kristina Saddlemire for a
walking tour of Green Street. Learn about 19th century Schuylerville
residents. Meet at corner of Burgoyne and Green Street.
RESEARCHING YOUR SCHUYLERVILLE AREA ANCESTORS
Tuesday, August 5 (1 pm)
Get help with research strategy for finding Schuylerville ancestors
from Deputy Town Historian and Genealogist Patricia Peck.

BATTEAU TO BARGE ALONG THE HUDSON
Wednesday, August 6 (6:30 pm)
Saratoga National Historical Park Ranger Joe Craig will provide and
active hands on demonstration of the transportation evolution along
the Hudson River from Batteaus to the Champlain Canal Barges. It
promises to be a fun, child friendly activity. Schuylerville Visitors
Center- Fort Hardy Park
MUSIC ON THE HUDSON
Thursday, August 7 (7 pm)
Enjoy a free concert. Bring your chairs and picnic baskets to the Old
Schuylerville Beach or anchor your boat in the Hudson River. Old
Schuylerville Beach, Fort Hardy Park.
FORT HARDY WALKING TOUR
Friday, August 8 (6:30 pm)
Join Town Historian and NYS French and Indian War Commissioner Sean
Kelleher for a walking tour (about a ½ mile) of Fort Hardy – a French
and Indian War fort in Schuylerville. Schuylerville Visitors Center
at Fort Hardy Park.
HUDSON RIVER CARDBOARD BOAT RACE
Saturday, August 9 (starts at 8 am races at 1 pm)
Enjoy a free concert. Bring your chairs and picnic baskets to the Old
Schuylerville Beach or anchor your boat in the Hudson River. Old
Schuylerville Beach, Fort Hardy Park.
SPIN TIL YOU DYE
Saturday, August 9 (11 am - 3 pm)
Rock Day Spinners demonstrate fiber spinning and natural dyeing over
an open fire. Schuyler House
18th CENTURY DAY
Sunday, August 10 (Noon – 5 pm)
Step back in time at the historic Schuyler House! The grounds abound
with 18th century activities, including puppet shows, music, oxen cart
rides, basket weaving, chair caning, tinsmithing, and more. Schuyler House. |
